Playing on the Tableau

Data-Nerd Beast-Mode Activated!

I love data. I have always loved the data. Databases are the greatest invention ever. We're currently in the middle of a big data avalanche and I couldn't be more excited.

The vast amount of things we can learn from all of this data are inconceivable.

  • Whichstate buys the most blueberries per person?
  • On Blogger, what is the percentage of incorrect use to correct use of theretheir and they're
  • How many times, per year, since inception, did The Washington Post use the word impeach.
  • Is there any correlation between the stock market prices on gold and silver and those damn commercials trying to sell me gold and silver?
  • Is there any data in the company sales history that can tell us what would sell better in August than in September?
  • Do we have a customer that we should politely fire because they take up too much of our time for the money we make from them?

I can run SQL till I'm blue in the face, but making a compelling graphic takes time; often more time than the outcome deserved. Being able to organize data in a way that visually speaks to people is a power to behold. I want that power. Tableau gives me that power.

If it's free, it's me. If I have to pay, no way.
